Peru: a safe destination for tourists to dream about https://peru-escape.com/peru-a-safe-destination-for-tourists-to-dream-about/ https://peru-escape.com/peru-a-safe-destination-for-tourists-to-dream-about/#respond Tue, 20 Oct 2020 05:13:00 +0000 https://peru-escape.com/?p=7782 There is some great news for travelers around the world. Peru is the third South American country to obtain the prestigious Safe Travels Stamp, awarded by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), meaning you can now start planning your next trip through the land of the Incas.

Not only is Peru one of the most megadiverse countries in the world, but thanks to this distinction, it is now also certified as a destination that meets all of the international hygiene and biosafety standards.

So, once international travel resumes, you know where to set your sights: the heart of South America.

Flying high

The WTTC award was received by the President of the Council of Ministers, Walter Martos, and the Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, RocĂo Barrios, at a ceremony held on October 13 in the citadel of Machu Picchu (Cusco).

The award was presented over a long-distance call, in which the president and CEO of the WTTC, Gloria Guevara Manzo, also participated.

After the presentation of the recognition, Minister Barrios highlighted the importance of this stamp, which shows that the Peruvian Government is fully committed to the tourism sector and the importance of its reactivation.

“Tourism is the economic activity that has been worst hit by the coronavirus pandemic. So to reactivate it we want to offer visitors the best possible travel experience, with quality tourist destinations and services and complying with strict biosecurity protocols. We commit to the public and private sectors. We’re getting ready to start again, it’s time,” said the minister.

For her part, WTTC President and CEO Gloria Guevara congratulated Peru for being among the top destinations in the world to have obtained the WTTC seal of approval. Moreover, she highlighted the optimal conditions offered by Peru as a travel destination and added that the stamp is a fundamental step in restoring user confidence.

“Coordination and alignment within the travel and tourism sector are vital to ensure that robust global measures are in place to help restore confidence and are taken jointly by governments and the private sector,” she added.

As a result, Machu Picchu, the islands of Lake Titicaca, the beaches of Punta Sal, the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, and many other attractions, will safely welcome visitors who wish to find inspiration in one of the most extraordinary countries in the world.

We’ll meet again

The time has not yet come to pack our bags and travel the world. But that sublime moment is already on the horizon. And the maintaining of health standards will undoubtedly be one of the most important factors for travelers.

This is why this stamp of approval is so important as it brings together a set of protocols designed in accordance with World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines in order to outline a global policy in the tourism sector.

Currently, Peru has 8 tourism biosafety protocols implemented by Cenfotur and which follow the guidelines of the WTTC. These guidelines follow the WHO protocols.

Glamping, a good post-coronavirus option https://peru-escape.com/glamping-a-good-post-coronavirus-option/ https://peru-escape.com/glamping-a-good-post-coronavirus-option/#respond Tue, 21 Jul 2020 02:50:00 +0000 https://peru-escape.com/?p=7762 The pandemic that plagues Peru and the entire world disrupted the travelers’ plans. Luckily, there are new security protocols that allow you to start thinking about taking up your bags and choosing your dream destination. Of course, always respecting the measures decreed for each place to visit, such as avoiding crowds.

Since July 16, interprovincial travel in Peru has resumed. Airlines and ground transportation companies also resumed their services under new security protocols. And although tour packages are not yet offered, the hotel industry is also reinventing itself so that travelers feel secure in acquiring these services. A different alternative to staying active is glamping.

Do you know what glamping is? Here we explain it to you. The term results from the union of the words glamor and camping, and consists of camping elegantly, that is, with all the existing comforts. Glamping is a luxury camp, where you get the best of both worlds: you reconnect with nature by living closely with mother earth and its spectacular views and locations, as well as having all the luxuries that the most ostentatious hotels can offer.

This exclusive activity, not yet widely practiced in the country, can be an outlet for conventional tourism, which usually concentrates on large groups of people.

The best destinations

What are the favorite and best-conditioned places for glamping in Peru? Many tourists choose Cusco as their first alternative. There, you can find various options, such as lodging at Nevado Salkantay, glamping on the Inca Trail, and Peru Eco Camp. The three options vary in prices, but they do not skimp on offering the tourist a place away from the noise, surrounded by nature, and free of crowds, as there are not many conditioned tents.

But if what you want is to get away from the cold, your destination should be Ica: near the Laguna de la Huacachina there is the Ica glamping, which offers tents with an Arab style in the middle of the coastal desert.

Peru on the big screen: here the ideal list https://peru-escape.com/peru-on-the-big-screen-here-the-ideal-list/ https://peru-escape.com/peru-on-the-big-screen-here-the-ideal-list/#respond Tue, 21 Jul 2020 02:13:00 +0000 https://peru-escape.com/?p=7755 Quarantine has not only served to keep us safe from the coronavirus. It brought families together and has revived the old habit of getting all together in front of the television. This is a brilliant opportunity to tune into Peru in the most didactic way: the seventh art.

Many filmmakers were inspired by Peru to their best creations. And here we bring you some of the best movies so you can have a great time at home. Everyone is invited: from the youngest to the oldest. Therefore, prepare your popcorn, get comfortable on the couch and enjoy this variety of movies.

You can see it through the Amazon platform.

Tad the Lost Explorer

This animated film tells the story of Tadeo Jones, a bricklayer who works in Chicago and dreams of being a leading archaeologist. Suddenly, his illusions begin to materialize when, after being fired, he visits his friend, Professor Miguel Humbert, who convinces him to venture out on a trip to Cusco, where he will experience a series of fantastic events. Dora and the Lost City of Gold

Inspired by the children’s series Dora, the Explorer, this film narrates Dora’s adventures in the Peruvian jungle, where she tries to find the Inca city of Patarata. DC Comics: Peru appears in Wonder Woman comic https://peru-escape.com/dc-comics-peru-appears-in-wonder-woman-comic/ https://peru-escape.com/dc-comics-peru-appears-in-wonder-woman-comic/#respond Tue, 14 Jul 2020 01:48:00 +0000 https://peru-escape.com/?p=7747 Once again, Peru is in the eyes of the entire world. This time, it is not to highlight the diverse and countless destinations that one would have to visit, at least once in his life. Nor to receive praise for the outstanding gastronomy. The prestigious publisher DC Comics included Peru in an adventure of its most famous female character: Wonder Woman.

Diana Prince, Wonder Woman’s alter ego, is a warrior princess of the Amazons, a fictional village inspired by Greek mythology. In the story, the superheroine created by William Moulton Marston is part of an archaeological project in Peru, which includes the tomb of Ayar Cachi, the Inca God of Tremors. Everything was in order until Cheetah, one of the archrivals of the heroine born on the island of Temiscira, appears on the scene.

The evil villain tries to steal the treasures from the funeral chamber of Ayar Cachi, who, according to the history of the ancient Quechua, was one of the brothers of Manco CĂĄpac and Mama Ocllo sent by the God Huiracocha to found the Inca Empire. If you were interested in the plot, you can purchase the copy at the following link.

Digitized Peru

The story, with the original name of Wonder Woman: Agent of Peace #8, is part of the DC Comics Digital First saga, an extension of the comic book that is exclusive to the web. In April of this year, DC Comics announced a series of comics with its most memorable characters like Superman, Batman, Aquaman and Flash, among others.

The script of the comic strip in which Peru is one of the main locations was written by Louise Simonson and adapted by Janice Chiang, who have been in the comics industry for more than 30 years. Paul Pelletier was in charge of the drawings and Norm Rapmund and Adriano Lucas worked in the painting and colors.

Machu Picchu in color

As an extra fact, Machu Picchu appeared at least twice in the superhero comics. In February of this year, in the Superman Hero #01 comic, Superman accepts his identity (Clark Kent) in the Cusco ruins. And in July 2018, the Peruvian writer and cartoonist Diego OlĂłrtegui portrayed Captain Marvel in the ruins of Machu Picchu (Captain Marvel: Infinity Countdown), but this time for Marvel Comics.

Why was Peru mentioned by the Obamas? https://peru-escape.com/why-was-peru-mentioned-by-the-obamas/ https://peru-escape.com/why-was-peru-mentioned-by-the-obamas/#respond Fri, 15 May 2020 18:14:00 +0000 https://peru-escape.com/?p=7679 It’s June 1989. Lawyer, administrator, and writer Michelle Lavaughn Robinson met lawyer and teacher Barack Hussein Obama II. The romance did not take long to emerge and in just over three years, in October 1992, the couple married. A new family that, with mutual respect, admiration, and joint work, managed to make history.

17 years after of said ‘yes, I accept’, Barack Obama was chosen as the 44th President of the United States, thus becoming the first African American to hold office. Michelle, for her part, obtained the same recognition as the first African-American woman to become the first lady. On January 20, 2017, both stopped exercising their functions to deliver the post to Donald Trump and her wife, Melania.

They were the first African-American couple to occupy the positions of President and First Lady in the United States.

Peru in the mouth of the Obamas
But, what do Obama spouses have to do with Peru? In a campaign to promote reading, Barack and Michelle recommended “The Word Collector”, a pedagogical book that was developed by Canadian writer and illustrator Peter H. Reynolds.

The protagonist of the book is Jerome, a boy who, unlike the rest of his classmates, does not collect coins, rocks, comics, insects or baseball cards. Jerome is happy learning (and collecting) new words. In one of the first passages of this children’s book, Michelle Obama reads a sentence through her husband’s Twitter account in which she mentions Peru.

Illustration from the book “The Word Collector” by Canadian writer Peter H. Reynolds

“My trip to Peru was perfectly pleasant,” says one of the characters who carry a suitcase with the Peruvian flag and the logo of the Peru Brand. Jerome, fascinated and paying close attention, transcribes the word Peru.

Connecting Peru with a pleasant trip is not at all fictitious. Because in the Inca country you find adventure, history in every corner, ancient culture and unique biodiversity. It is not a coincidence, then, that two such transcendental characters mention Peru within a campaign that seeks to encourage the habit of reading.

“I remember my first trip to the library. I was around age four. My library card was a key that unlocked a world of knowledge and experiences”, said Michelle Obama. “Public libraries are essential institutions. It will give families one more chance to explore their interests, learn and engage with their communities”, said Barack Obama. The full video can be found in the following video posted on Twitter.

Enjoy the documentary ‘Peru, hidden treasure’ on Netflix https://peru-escape.com/enjoy-the-documentary-peru-hidden-treasure-on-netflix/ https://peru-escape.com/enjoy-the-documentary-peru-hidden-treasure-on-netflix/#respond Wed, 13 May 2020 17:16:00 +0000 https://peru-escape.com/?p=7652 Peru is a country full of traditions, customs, and dazzling landscapes that surprise the entire world. All that cultural and geographical wealth has been staged, thanks to the documentary film Peru, hidden treasure, which is available on Netflix.

With a duration of 80 minutes and under the direction of the Uruguayan filmmaker Luis Ara, the production shows a tour of the Amazon, the Andes, and the Peruvian coast, where you can see destinations such as Machu Picchu, the Colca CanyonLake Titicaca, the Nasca LinesKuelap, the Amazon River; besides the flora, fauna and the renowned Peruvian gastronomy.

“Filming was exciting. Each of the places we visited had its charm. The coast, its incredible beaches, the sunset in the desert, sailing on the Marañón River, meeting people from all corners of Peru, the archaeological sites where one feels that travels through time. It has been an unforgettable experience that we want to share with the world”, commented Ara Hermida.

Filming process
All began in 2016 when Ara and his production team started an extensive trip to the interior of Peru to obtain the material. “We went in search of nature and that has made the film end up being a visual, sound, and sensory journey, where music has a lot to do with it,” added the Uruguayan filmmaker.

In a trip that lasted around eight months, Luis managed not only to collect images that show the beauty that hides in Peru, but he was able to experience beautiful moments that nature gave him. “A sunset in the desert is something that took my breath away, with that moment when the sun falls and you only see dunes around and you begin to feel the immensity of the dome of the sky above”, he recalled.

About the documentary film
Peru, hidden treasure presents the story of a surfer, a family from Lake Titicaca, a shaman from the Peruvian Amazon, and the Nikkei chef Mitsuharu Tsumura – whose restaurant called Maido was recently considered the best in Latin America – but always with nature, landscapes and geography as protagonists.

“The attraction here is diversity. Machu Picchu and Cusco are incredible, but Peru is not just that. The documentary is a way of showing the world a part of Latin America and saying ‘this is how beautiful our places are and that is how proud we are of them’”, said Ara.

Do not miss the opportunity to enjoy this documentary that shows the best-known natural places in Peru and those that have not yet been discovered by world tourism, in addition to knowing one of the richest culinary cultures in the world and the legacy that still remains of the civilizations that inhabited this South American country over time.
