Cusco festivals are celebrated virtually

June is the most important month for Cusco. This is because various activities are carried out to celebrate the cultural identity, tradition and customs of the Imperial City. However, this year, due to government restriction regulations to counter the COVID-19 pandemic, the festivities are celebrated virtually.

This was confirmed by the Provincial Municipality of Cusco and the Municipal Company of Celebrations of Cusco (Emufec), who noted that the activities are carried out through FacebookInstagramYoutube, and local media, with the hashtag #LaMagiadeCuscoEnCasa.

The president of the Emufec Shareholders Meeting, Ricardo Valderrama, reported that with this modality he seeks to keep this celebration going because it is very important not only for the people of Cusco but for all of Peru.

“It seeks to strengthen and remember, in this emergency, that June is the month of the Fiestas del Cusco (Feasts of Cusco) and Inti Raymi. At the same time, it is an invitation to the hope that in 2021 a long-awaited return to new normality will be found, for the reunion of all the people of Cusco in another version of their festivities”, Valderrama said.

A varied program
The celebrations began on June 1 with the traditional rite and offering to the Pachamama. Also, it is sharing visual works on the folk parades, presentations by the Orquesta Sinfónica del Cusco (Cusco Symphony Orchestra), musical shows, and various cultural expressions such as the pilgrimage to the Santuario del Señor de Qoylluriti (Sanctuary of the Lord of Qoylluriti); the Corpus Christi procession and the Corpus altars, founders of the Fiestas del Cusco.

Inti Raymi
The most important celebration of this month declared in 2001 as Cultural Heritage of the Nation, includes two activities: an impressive video that will present the Fiesta del Sol (Festival of the Sun) with 360 ° virtual reality technology and a summary of the previous stagings.

To these activities is added the Inti Raymi Special, which has the behind the scenes of this festivity that each year brings together more than 700 actors and artists on its three stages: the Qoricancha esplanade, the Plaza Mayor, and the esplanade of the Saqsayhuamán fortress.

With all these virtual activities, it seeks to promote that, in 2021, under a better situation, this festival can be celebrated face-to-face between Peruvians and tourists from all over the world.
