DC Comics: Peru appears in Wonder Woman comic

Once again, Peru is in the eyes of the entire world. This time, it is not to highlight the diverse and countless destinations that one would have to visit, at least once in his life. Nor to receive praise for the outstanding gastronomy. The prestigious publisher DC Comics included Peru in an adventure of its most famous female character: Wonder Woman.

Diana Prince, Wonder Woman’s alter ego, is a warrior princess of the Amazons, a fictional village inspired by Greek mythology. In the story, the superheroine created by William Moulton Marston is part of an archaeological project in Peru, which includes the tomb of Ayar Cachi, the Inca God of Tremors. Everything was in order until Cheetah, one of the archrivals of the heroine born on the island of Temiscira, appears on the scene.

The evil villain tries to steal the treasures from the funeral chamber of Ayar Cachi, who, according to the history of the ancient Quechua, was one of the brothers of Manco Cápac and Mama Ocllo sent by the God Huiracocha to found the Inca Empire. Digitized Peru

The story, with the original name of Wonder Woman: Agent of Peace #8, is part of the DC Comics Digital First saga, an extension of the comic book that is exclusive to the web. In April of this year, DC Comics announced a series of comics with its most memorable characters like Superman, Batman, Aquaman and Flash, among others.

The script of the comic strip in which Peru is one of the main locations was written by Louise Simonson and adapted by Janice Chiang, who have been in the comics industry for more than 30 years. Paul Pelletier was in charge of the drawings and Norm Rapmund and Adriano Lucas worked in the painting and colors.

Machu Picchu in color

As an extra fact, Machu Picchu appeared at least twice in the superhero comics. In February of this year, in the Superman Hero #01 comic, Superman accepts his identity (Clark Kent) in the Cusco ruins. And in July 2018, the Peruvian writer and cartoonist Diego Olórtegui portrayed Captain Marvel in the ruins of Machu Picchu (Captain Marvel: Infinity Countdown), but this time for Marvel Comics.
